Tweet This summer, visitors to London will be able to enjoy an authentic Jamaican cultural experience at Festival Jamaica 2012. For 17 days (27 July – 12 August), the Maryland School Complex will be transformed into cultural spaces, performance stages and lush tropical jungle to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence and the anticipated success of the island’s athletes during the Olympic Games. Patrons will be able to enjoy art, music, food, theatre and more, just 10 minutes from the Olympic park at Festival Jamaica 2012, which organisers say will complement the vast array of Jamaica 50 events around the UK. Tweet The last two weeks Deneshai Massias (15 old) and Mohamed Abdulle (15 old) from Bristol Brunel Accademy (BBA) and Jibran Mohammad (15 old) came to Ujima Radio for work experience.   The three young people felt immediately comfortable in the Radio Station. About this job experience they say: “In the past two weeks we have been at Ujima Radio 98FM for work experience. We have learned a lot about the background of radio broadcasting. Since we been working at the radio station we’ve have learned how to record the news and also How to make CD’s/. We had to record a advert for Ujima for a course that they was doing for young people over the summer. Tweet Dear Cllr Simon Cook, Leader of Bristol City Council, I was surprised and deeply disappointed that the city council decided not to ban the proposed march by the English Defence League to be held in Bristol on Saturday 14th July 2012. The decison by the council to allow this march to take place on the spurious grounds of freedom of speech, flies in the face of the EDL’s member’s bid to stir up racial hatred, bigotry and intolerance. Despiite the assertions the EDL make in denying they support a racist philosophy aimed at attacking Bristol’s Muslim’s communities they use them as a scapegoat for high youth unemployment, dismantling the welfare state etc. At a time of economic collapse both locally, nationally and globally, Bristol’s citizens do not wish to see racial and religious bigotry promoted on its’ streets...
