Citizen Journalism 3: Free Media course for 17-26 year olds starts May 22nd

Ever fancied yourself as a journalist or wanted to know what its like to research and report on issues that matter to you?

Following the success of recent Media courses ” Citizen Journalism 11″ and “Understanding Islam”, Ujima Radio 98 FM are now offering another exciting Free Media Course for 17-26 year olds, with support from UWE. This fast paced course will offer young people hands on experience in media and journalism with full support from industry professionals. No previous experience needed just a commitment and interest in learning new skills.

This exciting course will offer you:

  • Research, media training and interview skills – you will interview important decision makers in the city
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of creating a radio show – you will create your own talk and news show
  • An insight into what it takes to be successful in media and radio journalism
  • An Introduction to social media and its uses for journalism

You will:

  • Access to University resources and experts
  • Meet the Lord Mayor Faruk Choudry and find out what he plans to do in office
  • Report on the May 2013 local elections
  • Look at topics like: economic climate in Bristol, sustainability and health policies
  • Create your own radio show using your interviews and research

Previous young people on our courses have gone on to have their own shows on Ujima or access careers in the media industries and organisations like the BBC.
