70th anniversary of the D Day Landings

Today is the 70th anniversary of the D Day Landings in Normandy, the largest seaborne invasion in history, a decisive moment in WWII which was the first step towards the liberation of Nazi occupied Europe.

To commemorate this, on the eve of the Anniversary, hundreds of the last few surviving D Day veterans gathered on both sides of the Channel, The Red Arrows performed a display over Southsea while a parachute drop was launched over the Normandy Beaches themselves.

Many more events are planned for today, and the month ahead.
