Ujima keeps on movin’ : The awards keep coming for Bristol’s unique Radio Station …….


One of Bristol’s most popular radio stations Ujima Radio cic  has secured a THIRD  prestigious prize, namely  “Best Radio station” at the MMG awards ceremony  beating off strong competition from south Wales and across the south west of England .

 “Hot on the heels of scooping the prestigious national diversity award and the MTM regional award Bristol’s favourite Community Radio station Ujima Radio 98FM has secured its third award in less than 6 months, from the ground-breaking Mogul Minded Group,”….. said the Stations’ chair, Roger Griffith .  He continues,“….2016 is set to bring even more national, regional and local recognition for our special radio station. With recognition comes resources, which means we can improve and developed this precious platform that provides communities who face increasing disadvantage and  marginalisation  a unique space to share their stories and soundtracks of everyday life.”

The Mogul Minded Group Regional Awards is a ceremony for which the results are voted on by the general public. Celebrating the very best of that the South West UK has to offer this prestigious event is a true reflection of our vibrant culturally mixed communities where we celebrate our creative contributions to the society in which we live.

The awards cover  the south west of England and South Wales which comprise  the cities of Bath, Bristol, Swindon, Gloucester, Newport & Cardiff.

The MMGRA took  place @ The Bristol Pavilion, Bristol County Ground, Nevil Road, Bristol BS7 9EJ on Friday 8th April 2016.

2)      MTM Awards was first launched in 2012 to honour Asian community in the South West that has been in the region for over 60 years- playing a great socio-economic role in the country. The MTM South West Asian Awards were first held in December 2012 with over two hundred nominated for the 23 awards ranging from business to professional services, with 69 making it to the final

3)      The annual National Diversity Awards were held at Liverpool’s Anglican cathedral in September and despite a field of over 10,000 nominations from across the country, Ujima Radio cic won the outstanding contribution to diversity in the race, faith and religion category.

4)      Ujima Radio cic was founded in 2008  it broadcasts on 98fm and online. It exists to primarily celebrate African and Caribbean cultures in Bristol through music and informative and educational talk content. It also provides economic and community development opportunities for the most marginalised communities in Bristol.
