One-off Bike Tour Celebrating International Women’s Day

How did a mother-of-six ensure Bristol’s iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge was built? Do you know the link between Bristol and the world’s first female doctor? What about the story of a fake princess who took 19th century England by storm and ended up selling leeches to the Bristol Infirmary Hospital?

Find out all these hidden stories and more on March 4th, when Cycle the City invitespeople to join them for a unique bike tour marking International Women’s Day and celebrating some of the remarkable women who have helped shape Bristol.

Accompanied by a local guide, the tour ventures through Bristol, reliving defining moments, discovering why Bristol has long been a forward-thinking city and exploring some of the early advancements in the history of equal opportunities.

Cycle the City is an independent business offering alternative two wheeled experiences in the city, launching from their Harbourside home on Bristol’s waterfront. Since first opening up in 2012, Cycle the City have guided thousands of tourists, locals, and even a group of local bus drivers around Bristol.

Along the two-hour route, there’ll be stories, sights and plenty of time for photographs, along with a pit-stop at Spoke & Stringer for refreshments along the way. Guests are welcome to bring a bike, or ride one of Cycle the City’s Pashley bikes. Tours are running at 11am & 3pm, with limited spaces available, and are suitable for all skill levels.

Tour guide Holly McGowan-Hayes, says: ‘Planning the Women of Bristol tour has been fascinating! Over the years, Bristol has been home to so many remarkable (and notorious!) women and I’m looking forward to sharing their stories with everyone on the tour.’
