Bristol’s Big Conversation Rosa Hui joins Ujima As part of Chinese New Year celebrations

BRISTOL’S CIVIL RIGHTS S’HERO – ROSA HUI

Born in China, her parent’s and nine siblings escaped communism in the late 1940s and settled in Hong Kong before moving to England.

Rosa has fought to secure funding and create ways of supporting women in Bristol since the formation of her Chinese Women’s Group in 1989. Idolised amongst the Chinese community and Bristolians alike she promotes Bristol through her roles as deputy lieutenant and member of the police and crime panel and is still a campaigner in Westminster.

Rosa was recently awarded an MBE for her campaigning work and social action work which includes working on Bristol Race Equality Council alongside many great Bristol social activists to tackle racism.

Her great achievements over the last 35 years are made all the more spectacular given her personal battles with ill-health. .
