Volunteer Gardening Day – Werbuzz Community Garden

The vision for a NEW COMMUNITY GARDEN!

St Werburghs Community Centre needs Volunteers to transform its outdoor spaces……

From thisTo this

St Werburghs Centre wants to create an accessible, welcoming and interactive outdoor space, which provides meaningful volunteer opportunities for local people, encourages community engagement and can be used as an outdoor recreational and educational facility.

We have managed to secure some funding to start work on transforming our Werbuzz Werbuzz Community Garden and we are seeking volunteers to make it happen. The first Volunteering Day is planned for SATURDAY 18th MARCH 2017 to focus on the perimeter gardens, save the date!

You can help to:

  • Plant trees
  • Build a bug hotel
  • Build new raised garden beds
  • Make colourful pictures on the tarmac surrounding the building
  • Do some much needed heavy lifting: moving & replanting existing containers

Here’s what the schedule for the day is looking like so far:

09:00 – ARRIVAL: Refreshments, chat about the plan for the day & tour
09:30 – Activities start
12:45 – LUNCHTIME: warm tasty vegan soup with bread & refreshments
13:30 – Activities resume
15:45 – WIND DOWN: tidy up and reflect on the day
16:00 – FINISH

Amy Cairns, Project Leader for the Community Centre’s Raking and Baking, a free weekly cookery and gardening course, says about the new garden:

“We use the perimeter gardens to grow vegetables and fruit. The raised beds are in dire need of replacement as they are falling apart. The courses have huge benefits and a range of local people come to the gardens here to learn about organic growing and healthy eating. Having a functional and inspiring space would be fantastic!”

If you can come and help to make this dream a reality, please fill in a volunteer form. You can get this by contacting the centre on:
