BRISTOL GREEN CAPITAL PARTNERSHIP 10TH ANNIVERSARY

The Bristol Green Capital Partnership (BGCP) celebrates its 10th anniversary on Thursday 6th July. Founded in 2007, its vision is to a sustainable Bristol with a high quality of life for all. Since then around 800 organisations have pledged to help make Bristol more environmentally sustainable. They recently helped to raise almost £110,000 in funding for local groups through their Better Bristol crowdfunding campaign by seeking public match-funding against £45,000 of green grants.

Our work on green issues goes back to 2012 with our Green Citizens Journalism project with UWE and University of Bristol developed by Paul Hassan. Ujima became a Partnership member in 2014, and BGCP has been a strong Ujima supporter, particularly since our 2015 Green and Black project, run by Julz Davis.

Ian Townsend is the Chief Executive of the Bristol Green Capital Partnership. Ian previously worked on international development, particularly on poverty in Africa, at Bristol’s Development Initiatives and then as an independent consultant, before joining BGCP in June 2016. He has a background in sustainable transport, particularly cycling, being involved with London’s Cycle Campaign’s policy forum then with Bristol Cycling on moving back to his home city. Ian He will be a guest on Bristol’s Big Conversation on Thursday 11am 6th July 2017 with Roger Griffith.
