Are You Up for a Challenge?

In partnership with the Keep The Beat campaign, Ujima Radio CIC – the winners of the UK’s best Community Radio Awards is running a fundraiser event called “Hair today, gone tomorrow” (are you up for a challenge?). With the aim of encouraging its presenters, listeners and wider public to cut or shave their hair in in order to help raise £2,000 to support CLIC Sargent.

The event organiser Ade who is a long-time volunteer at Ujima 98fm said, “as a kidney transplant recipient who has received regular blood transfusions I wanted to do something to raise awareness and make a difference. So I came up with a fun sponsored haircut concept to help raise much needed funds and awareness for CLIC Sargent – a charity that supports children with Leukaemia. I also wanted to help raise funds for the Keep the Beat campaign, a BAME organ and blood donor campaign that I run on behalf of Ujima Radio. These are the two things that I’m really passionate about because they have helped to save and transform lives whilst changing my outlook on life”.

If you’re willing to cut your hair to help raise funds email by 5pm Monday 24th July. 10% of the funds raised will go to CLIC Sargent to support the young lives facing cancer and the rest will go to Ujima to carry on raising awareness for blood and organ donation within the BAME communities. You can also sponsor or donate by going to

“Hair today, gone tomorrow” (are you up for a challenge?) happens on Thursday 27th July 2017, 7pm to 8pm at the Hobbs Hair Salon, 50 Park Row, Bristol BS1 5LH.

About CLIC Sargent

When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health.

Cancer doesn’t discriminate. Today, 11 more children and young people will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. They will provide a specialist package of support tailored to each young cancer patient and family.

CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can’t. We do this individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things, like getting well. And if the worst happens, we will work with bereaved families to get them support, to help them cope with their emotional pain.
