All throughout July, Ujima 98fm will be celebrating 9 years of broadcasting. Not only will we be broadcasting from some of the region’s biggest outdoor events, we’ll also be replaying iconic audio gems and giving away awesome prizes. We’ll be digging into our audio archives to replay some of our favourite interviews, shows and moments. We’ve teamed up with the Gloucester Cricket Ground for the The Women’s Cricket World Cup Tournament on July 15th . And we’ve tickets for the West Indies vs. England. After a 10 year break, Ujima has teamed up with VP Records to proudly help them to present the return of the music industry’s number 1 model search competition – Miss Reggae Gold. The finial is on 2 August 2017 @ The Clapham Grand, London. However, on Friday July 7th, from 6 – 8pm tune into the South West Chart show with Nia as she speaks to the CEO of VP records as well as gives away tickets to the grand finale.

 

As part of their 150th anniversary, Ujima has teamed up with the Colston Hall to give you the chance to get up close and personal with the living soul legend and renowned civil rights activist Mavis Staple. Then from Monday July 3rd to Thursday July 6th tune into the Cruising show as they’ll be picking out daily winners from 4-6pm. Also, in partnership with with the Colston Hall, we’ll be giving one super duper lucky person the chance to win one of the pair of golden tickets to the sale out Outlook Orchestra gig which celebrates sound system culture. Takeovers:

With summer officially here, July is packed with loadsa of significant events and through a series of especially commissioned shows we plan on marking the following occasions:

 

July 7th 2017 is the 30th anniversary of landmark release of the Paid in Full album by hip hop legends Eric B & Rakim. So to celebrate this, on Saturday July 8th, from 8 -10pm tune into DJ Styles who will looking back at their legacy, impact and influence.

 

Earlier in the year we teamed up with the Culver Hill School who were hosting a day on diversity, so on July 13th from 12-2pm tune in for a special youth Takeover of the airwaves with Culver Hill School.

 

On July 18th to honour International Nelson Mandela Day, we wanna know what you thought of him and what he meant to you? Share your thoughts by texting us on 07960 240 198. Remember to leave your name, and use the keyword Nelson. And then on July 18th from 12 – 2pm, tune into the Artycul show as read out your messages and we review some of the the key moments in Mandela’s life!

 

With the 50th anniversary  of the St Paul’s Carnival coming up in 2018, all of the team at Ujima would like to congratulate the St Paul’s Carnival team for doubling the investment from the Arts Council. With 4 years of funding and £600,000 secured from 2018 – 2022. . And after 3 years of it not happening, we’ll be looking back at some of the key moments, talking to the communities involved as well as looking at what’s being done to help bring it back.

 

 

Broadcasting Live:

All throughout July we’ve teamed up with some of the regions biggest and coolest events to broadcast live from the heart of the action, including:

 

This coming Friday 7th July, your multi-award winning Ujima 98fm will be broadcasting live from the N.A.S.S Festival. On the bill you’ve got artists such as Method Man, Giggs, Wiley and more. So from 4-6pm tune into the Crusing show with Mistri, who will be neck deep in the thick of the action.

 

As part of marking our 9th birthday, yet again, Ujima is super proud to be teaming up with the Harbour Festival to host one of the regions  biggest stages. As well as broadcasting live from the heart of the action, we’ve got a very special 9th birthday showcase featuring, home-grown talent such as Splitz P, local reggae sensation – Norris B and The Voice finalist  – Tanya Lacey. So, why not join us down at the Amphitheatre on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd July. Or tune in and listen to our exclusive broadcast from the comfort of your home, online, on-air or on DAB!

 

If your into graffiti, street art and urban culture, on Friday July 28th we’ll be broadcasting from the Europe’s largest street art festival – Upfest. So tune in from 4pm with the Mistri.

 

 

And finally,  as the UK’s Best Community radio Station, we are beyond X-cited to announce that on Friday 17th August, Ujima 98fm will be teaming up with urban radio heavyweights 1Xtra for an inspirational day of live broadcasting. Focussing on ‘How To Break into the Industry’, we’ve got an inspirational day of expert advice, panel debates, work shops, music performances from emerging home-grown talent, an exhibition and a tour of Ujima. So, if you got the talent, skills and desire to work in the creative, media or broadcasting industry, and what the hook-up, from 10am – 6pm, join us here at Ujima at the Station, The Old Fire Station, Silver St, BS1 2AJ.
